Vu Tu Nam

I am studying International Commerce at the National Economics University in Hanoi. After joining SIFE-National Economic, a non-governmental organization which helps farmers to create a sustainable society, I and my friends pursued environmental projects focussing on high economic efficiency. Through such activities, we not only brought benefits to society but also improved our knowledge and skills to create the foundations for the development of future projects.

Vision

Earthworm compost is a good choice to replace the use of chemical fertilizers, which leave residues that cause soil pollution and the reduction of plant quality. Farmers from Phu Dong village, the project site, through taking part in our project, will have the opportunity to expand their production activities and increase their income, resulting in a higher standard of living. Additionally, farmers' awareness of environmental protection will be considerably improved with farmers taking an active role in keeping the village clean and green.

What's the project about

Our project will provide famers with techniques and models to develop a cow manure treatment system that combines scientific, environmental and economic elements. This project, thus, will tackle not only environmental problems- pollution resulting from cattle breeding businesses- but also social and economic issues by creating employment and family income opportunities. Earthworms will be processed into different products- raw, processed, and dried- to serve as nutrients for fishery industry or organic agriculture. This initiative promises to provide a high-benefit new market area, and our project will help farmers to enter into this new market. In addition to earthworm raising techniques, farmers will also be introduced to entrepreneurship, marketing and sales skills.

E-idea and me

The E-idea competition gives me a great opportunity to reach my goals. With support from the British Council and LRQA, I will be able to review our project plan to increase the level of efficiency and effectiveness. I also have the opportunity to increase my teamwork and project management skills. This competition's prize not only make my dream come true but also is a great encouragement for young people like myself to realise our ideas, and to dare to dream of more. I really hope that British Council and LRQA will continue to promote this helpful initiative for creating a "greener" environment and a better community.
