Recycling Garbage in School to Green our Buildings

Nguyen Van Thanh

Since entering university, I have engaged in different community activities, which have provided me with many different experiences and developed my abilities. From my second year I started to conduct research and I have gained significant success in different competitions, such as the Students and Science Experiments Competition in 2009, the Young Creative Idea Competition in 2010, the Innovation and Saving Energy Competition held by Ho Chi Minh City. My most outstanding achievement, though, is my participation in the E-Idea competition organized by the British Council and LRQA. I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with other E-idea winners and listening to their ideas.

Vision

Our project aims to cover the university roof and main walls with green plants, making use of both organic and non-organic waste collected from our university daily activities. The first project site will be the Hochiminh City (HCMC) University of Architecture. After successfully implementing the first stage, the project can be easily replicated in many public buildings such as schools, hospitals, bus stops, and buildings. The project aims to apply modern construction experiences and technology as well as learning from different countries to develop the green veiling of buildings in Vietnam.

What's the project about

Our project “Recycling Garbage in School to Green our Buildings” involves classifying different types of garbage in schools, and reusing waste such as plastic, cans and glasses to design pots, basins and construction panels necessary to grow plants and flowers to create "green buildings". The plants will protect the environment and contribute to the saving of energy by lowering temperatures within buildings though the use of green veils. The successful implementation of this project will bring a lot of practical environmental, energy-saving and economic benefits to society.

E-idea and me

We expect that our project "Recycling Garbage in School to Green our Buildings" will soon be implemented and will improve the environment by increasing the recycling of garbage and also by reducing energy. The E-idea competition has helped us to review our project, and to refine our implementation and funding management plans. I am also looking forward through E-idea to interact with my international E-idea peers. In addition, by joining the E-idea network, I will be able to support the needs of our communities, and share learning with other group members.
